Making the decision to work on your own relationship with food and your body is a big step, and one that I take very seriously.

Asking for help isn’t easy. This can be especially true when you’re a therapist. As clinicians, we know how to solve problems, right? We’ve learned techniques to help our clients, and we should be able to just use those on ourselves. Except that doesn’t really work, does it?

It’s even more difficult to reach out for help when you’re a therapist struggling with disordered eating because there’s just so much shame about these issues. Almost every client I’ve ever met has felt as though she’s the only person who binge eats. The only one who hates her body so much. The only one who feels completely out-of-control with food. But of course, they aren’t. And neither are you. Because of the influence of diet culture, it’s next to impossible to have a healthy, flexible relationship with food and a kind, respectful relationship with your body. You are not alone in this.

What Will We Work Toward?

Together, we’ll be working toward the goal of Self-led eating. What does that mean? It means being aware of all of the parts that influence your relationship with food and your body. We’ll get to know your emotional eating parts, your binge eating parts, and the parts that want you to try the next best diet. We’ll also get to know the parts of you that have negative feelings toward your body. When we get to know these parts, you’ll notice the following changes:

  • Feeling much calmer around food

  • Eating a wider variety of food—even foods that you’ve been fearful of in the past

  • Fewer food cravings

  • No more binge eating

  • A decrease in emotional eating (because yes—food still gets to be comforting!)

  • No longer dieting

  • A respect for your body

Why Should You Work with Me in Therapy?

I’ve been working with clients struggling with diagnosable eating disorders and disordered eating patterns for over 20 years now, and believe me—I’ve made a million mistakes.

I'm not at all proud to say that I used to help womxn try to lose weight.  I completely bought into the "let's try to control your eating with such-and-such plan."  It breaks my heart to know that I gave my clients the same fatphobic, "weight = health," BS message that they were hearing everywhere else.

And it never worked.

Because, of course, diets don't work long-term.  You cannot control your emotional eating, binge eating, or any type of disordered eating with a diet.  In fact, control shouldn't even be the goal--freedom and flexibility with food should.

So now, my work is all about helping you to get curious about all of the complexities of emotional eating, enjoy a flexible relationship with food, and learn how to be more compassionate with all of your parts. I'm also passionate about respecting and valuing your body, leaning into your uniqueness as a person, and taking up space.

In both my therapy and coaching practices, I combine Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Intuitive Eating (IE) to meet you where you are, and get you where you’d like to go.
