Therapist. Coach. Consultant. Trainer.

(And Diet Culture Drop-Out).

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Dr. Kim Daniels (she/her/hers), and I'm a Clinical Psychologist who’s been working with womxn who struggle with Eating Disorders and disordered eating for over 20 years. With the help of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Intuitive Eating (IE), I help my clients understand WHY they turn to--and away from--food so they can approach food with awareness, enjoy eating food they love, address their emotions without food, and feel calm while they're standing in front of the fridge.

And more than anything, I love working with other therapists.

First of all, therapists are willing to get in there and do the work. Seeing that level of healing is awe-inspiring to me, and I’m honored to be a part of it. And secondly, not only do therapists have the same types of issues with food as everyone else (we’re human too!), we have parts that carry guilt and shame over being a clinician who should know how to “fix this.”

It’s vital to let that go. And I love being a part of that process.

And—oh yeah—I’m an emotional eater. Food has always been my go-to—and sometimes it still is. There’s nothing wrong with that. But I’ve done a lot of my own work on this and now, I approach food with calm awareness. I know when I’m getting “hijacked” by a part of me that wants to reward me with food. And I have a little chat with that part and figure out what else it might need. Yes—sometimes it’s still food. But very often it isn’t.

We therapists need to do our own work. But what is that work?

There is so much noise out there about the techniques that you “should” use to address such eating patterns as binge eating, overeating, compulsive eating, and emotional eating. From thought records, to meal plans, to setting goals, to changing your thought process, I’ve probably tried them all with my clients. And you know what? NONE of that worked. Because I wasn’t really helping them understand their relationship with food. And I certainly wasn’t helping them heal it.

Thankfully, I eventually found Internal Family Systems (IFS), which gave me the ability to help my clients truly heal their relationships with food and their bodies. With the help of IFS, my clients have been able to fully understand why their parts have been protecting them by eating and/or restricting food.

And then I discovered Intuitive Eating (IE), which gives me a few more techniques to use to help my clients truly tune into their body and give it what it needs.

With IFS and Intuitive Eating IE, we’ll be working together to accomplish the following:

Internal Family Systems:

  • Get to know all of the parts in what I call your “Eating System”

  • Increase your access to your own Self-energy

  • Understand why your protectors turn you toward and/or away from food

  • Get to know the exiles your parts are protecting

  • Unburden the extreme beliefs and emotions your exiles are carrying

  • Help your protectors to let go of their jobs or expand their resources

  • Understand the polarities in your system

Intuitive Eating:

  • Exit diet culture

  • Notice and unpack all of the damaging messages you’ve learned and still carry about food and bodies

  • Incorporate all foods (including your “fear foods” into your eating pattern

  • Create a way of eating that works well for you both physically and emotionally

  • Tune into your body in order to recognize hunger and fullness cues

  • Learn how to treat your body with kindness and respect

I look forward to working with you.
