Episode 6: Intuitive Eating: The First Key to Changing Your Relationship with Food and Your Body.

Imagine…

  • Eating the foods that you enjoy—with no guilt.

  • Eating until you feel full and satisfied—and ending your meal.

  • Having those cookies that you usually can’t stop eating sitting right on your kitchen counter—and being able to walk right on by.

  • Not being able to remember the last time you ate in response to your emotions--it's been that long.

  • Accepting your body for what it is right here, right now.

You may be shaking your head and think, "Yeah right Kim!  Whatever!  There's no way I can do any of those things!"

But you can.

You absolutely can.

  • You can feel completely calm around food.

  • You can eat the foods that you enjoy without feeling guilty.

  • You can move past hating your body.

  • You can learn to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full.

  • You can learn how to cope with your emotions and your stress level without using food.

You can do all of that (and more!) with an approach to food called Intuitive Eating.

Intuitive Eating (IE) is an approach to food that was created by two dietitians back in the 1990s.  It includes 10 principles that fall into one of four categories or goals of the model:

  1. Tuning into your body

  2. Developing body respect

  3. Breaking free from diet culture

  4. Making peace with food

The 10 principles of IE hit on every aspect of changing your relationship with food and your body.  Which is why it's one of the keys that you need to change your relationship with food!  And we're starting our discussion of it today!

In this episode, I'm discussing what IE is, what the goals and the Ten Principles are, and how IE helps with emotional eating (because yes, it does!).
