Episode 36: Why You Need to Work on Your Relationship with Your Body (hint: because it impacts your relationship with food).

Here’s a question for you–and I’ll warn you, it’s a tough one.

How do you feel about your body?

Sigh. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that your answer to that question wasn’t a resounding, "I love it! I couldn’t be happier about it!"

Let's face it:  most if not almost all women (and probably most men) don’t love their bodies. Many, in fact would say they hate them.

My guess is, when you think about your body, you aren’t very positive about it. In fact, you might be downright mean to yourself about it. Which isn’t surprising given the relentless messages we get about how we’re supposed to look. We couldn’t avoid those messages if we tried. And it’s nearly impossible to not take them in.

These messages make it so hard to feel anything positive about our bodies. Even if we want to.

Our relationship with our bodies is complicated.  Just about as complicated as our relationship with food (or maybe even more).  But it’s a relationship that’s really important to think about. How you feel about your body is directly related to how you care for it (or don’t care for it). And....

How you feel about your body has a huge impact on your eating patterns.  Which is WHY you need to work on your relationship with your body when you’re working on your relationship with food.

There’s that all-important why that we've been focusing on for the past two weeks.  And we’re digging into that why on this week’s podcast too. In this episode, we go into why it's so important to work on improving how we feel about our bodies.  And I talk about the four ways our feelings about our body impact our eating behaviors.

How you feel about your body has a significant impact on your eating. You can’t work on one without working on the other. Which makes the work harder, I know. But when you change your feelings toward your body for the better, changing your eating patterns is much easier.  And we'll be talking all about this in future episodes.

So, take a listen to this weeks episode for a deeper dive into why working on your relationship with food is so important!
