Episode 55: Why Did I Eat That? How to Understand Your Relationship with Food with the Help of IFS.

I don't know about you, but the word that comes to mind when I think about my relationship with food is "complicated."  I think that's true for most people.  And yet we're often told that it's supposed to be simple.  Like "food is fuel" or eating is "just a habit that you can change."

I don't believe any of that messaging.

I think our relationships with food are complicated and complex, and this is exactly why it's so hard to change how we eat and how we use food.

But even though these relationships are complicated, they are possible to change.

And on this week's podcast, I show you the first step to take in changing your relationship with food.  It's a technique called "Parts Mapping," and it will help you to see all of the different parts of you that relate to food in different ways.  Once you notice all of the parts in what I call your "eating system," you can really start making some changes.  But you have to do this piece first.

In this week's podcast, I walk you through a parts mapping exercise that will enable you to discover all of the parts that lead you to and away from food, that have other thoughts and feelings about food and your body, and that may be feeling critical toward your eating.  This is the start of really getting to know why you eat the way you do, and we'll be building on this in the coming weeks.
