Episode 50: The "You Tried it, Here's Why it Didn't Work" Series: Dieting.
If you’re listening to this podcast, I’m guessing you’re tried a diet or two. Or 17. Most people have. And if you're listening to this podcast, I'll also guess that those diets didn't get you what you wanted.
People tend to diet for one of two reasons (or both):
To lose weight
To control their eating
But what tends to happen with dieting is the exactly opposite of both of those things. Diets actually tend to lead to weight gain, not loss, and they very often lead to binge eating or feeling out-of-control with food.
We’ve known for 60 years—sixty years—that diets don’t work long-term. In fact, only 2-5% of dieters lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off for five years. That success rate is abysmal.
Why?
That's what we're talking about on this week's podcast. In this episode, I share with you the main reasons that diets don't work from a physical and an emotional perspective. We’re talking about set point theory, the ways your body gets you to eat so that you don’t die (that’s kind of important), and why we emotionally always return to food. Take a listen!
