Episode 48: The "You Tried it, Here's Why it Didn't Work" Series: Therapy.

This week's episode starts the series, "You Tried it, Here's Why it Didn't Work."  In this series, we'll be exploring the many types of things that you're probably used to try to control your eating, stop binge eating or emotional eating, and/or lose weight.  And we'll be talking at length about why these things don't work.

And we're starting with therapy.

I decided to start with this topic because I myself used to be a therapist who tried to help people lose weight.  And you know what?  It didn't work.  It just didn't.  This is why I feel like I have a bit of a leg to stand on when I say that focusing on weight loss is never the answer.  

In this week's podcast, we're talking about:

  • Why seeing a therapist may not have helped you with your emotional or binge eating

  • What to look for when searching for a therapist to help with emotional eating

  • The difference between therapy and coaching and how to decide which is the best fit for you

Don't get me wrong.  Obviously I'm a huge advocate for therapy.  But it's not always effective for people who are trying to change their relationship with food for the better.  And this week we're talking about why.

And if you happen to be a therapist who's supported diet culture with your clients, I totally get it!  Yet again--I used to do it!  So you'll get no judgment from me!  But you're here, and you're learning.  We all have to start somewhere.
